Rav Shmuel Orlan

Rav Shmuel Orlin z"l was born on the 25th of Shvat 5708 (1948) in the agricultural village of Kadima. He spent his childhood in Kadima and there started his religious studies. Later he moved to the "Yavne" school in Netanya. In 5722 (1961) he joined the first class of the Bnei Akiva Yeshiva High School in Netanya after which he transferred to the Hebron Yeshiva in Yerushalayim (5724/1963), where he studied for the next two and a half years. Shmuel z"l saw the importance of combining learning with military service and continued his studies in the hesder program at Yeshivat Kerem B'Yavneh. He started his army service in the Nachal unit after which he transferred to the tanks division. After finishing hesder at KBY he decided to continue his studies in Jerusalem and joined Yeshivat Hakotel where he stood out as a serious and well versed student. During the duration of his studies at Hakotel he participated in a course to become a judge in the rabbinical courts at which time he studied halacha with the leading rabbinic leaders in Jerusalem.

He fell in the Golan on the afternoon of the 11th of Tishrei 5734 (1973) during the Yom Kippur War.
